snapped by love thy muse

A slight little while ago (the bare legs kinda give away the pre-winter date this was taken) the ever so excellent and stylish Heidy of Love Thy Muse snapped a couple shots of me on a particularly girly day (so much pink!) and shared some darn lovely words (plus the rumour that I would be Sydney-bound post-London trip - but I can happily say I'm in Perth for a little while longer, turns out this town has a stronger hold on me than I thought!) Featuring probably my favourite jumper in the world and some of the comfiest heels I own.

Check out the whole post with more photos here. Thanks for the love, Heidy!

ride away with me

THIS WEEK HAS BEEN GREAT. Because I have a new possession in my life to treasure like no other - a new bike! I've been after a new one for a while now, and am so pleased to introduce this beauty into my life. I can't wait for the weather to warm up (though I realise it's hardly looking wintery in these photos) so I can take her to the beach, pack a wee picnic, visit friends, pick flowers, whatnot! My life is soon going to be a montage of picturesque bicycle romance.

restyle 2013

So it's been a whole year since 30 Days of Restyle! What a divine month last august was, op shopping like a mad woman and embracing the challenge of wearing purely thrifted clothing, with my fellow fabulous restylers for the good folk at Perth Fashion Festival.

Now it's time to follow along with a gorgeous new group of local bloggers! This year each lass is exclusively shopping and blogging for one charity, and there's a style prompt for every day (mixed prints, less than $10, etc.) Slightly more challenging than last year! But these ladies are going to do a most wicked job; I can't wait to see what they come up with. And as always, it's awesome to see such wonderful charities supported so enthusiastically (and so stylishly!)

Check them out, yo:

Brighita of The Kids Are in Trouble, for RSPCA

Angeline of The Love Thread, for Anglicare

Claire of The Harbour Master, for Vinnies

Happy restyling!

ruffle happy

Warning: this is a VERY happy post. I have a new camera in my mitts, you see. Please see below for examples of said happiness...

vintage dress / op shopped heels / Sportsgirl earrings

Feels so good to have a camera again, man. And of course the first set of photos I take are myself dancing like a dork. Obviously. Fun fact! The third photo is actually me falling down. It's disconcerting how similar photos of me dancing and photos of me falling over look.

So I wore this get up to see Cirque du Soleil's Ovo last weekend. (In a very what-is-my-life moment I managed to score a VIP ticket to the opening - open bar, fab food and Perthonality-spotting, that's a sick life I could get used to.) And the show itself was just stunning. If you dig a night of marvelling at the creativity and power of the human body, I defs recommend a visit.

And shout out to my pal Michael for the dress! New fave, fo sho.

wedding day hues

True love exists, you guys. I know that now. I laid eyes on this beauty in Retro Vinnies on William St (bless you, Vinnies) and life hasn't been the same since. (I'm not being melodramatic, I swear.) (I'm probably being a little melodramatic, but whatever, look how pretty.) A glorious 70s maxi in excellent condition, its glorious colours as bright as ever. Perfect for the wedding of some good mates in a beautiful garden nestled at the bottom of the hills.

I just want to twirl around forever.

bare that 'driff

A day of hair doin', gift shoppin', bank visitin' and photo editin', followed by an evening at the Urban Couture preview (which was grand! Photos and deets to come.) If you're in Perth be sure to check out the program for the City of Joondalup's Urban Couture - there are some rad pop up events happening over the next couple weeks as part of the Joondalup Festival (and they're all free!)

And outfit-wise, it seems like I've gathered a fair few of my current obsessions here: midriff tops (I legit have a pile of old shirts sitting in my room waiting to be cropped - you better believe that post will be coming soon), turtlenecks (yeah!), black and blue, light curls, red wine lips. This weeks's guide to Lisa, basically.

sweet red

Oh hey, real world.

I took a slight break from that ol' thing to road trip (!!!) it down to Esperance for a few days with some lovely friend folk. It was a damn good time full of adventures and exploring, muchos food, fab company and legit, legit the most beautiful beach I've ever been to, in the world, ever. Photos to come, just you wait.

And duh, of course, no trip to a country town is complete without a visit to the local op shop, where I picked up these sweet loafers (something I've been after for a while!) Cheers, Espo. So today - trying my hardest to switch off my brain's holiday mode - I upped the red for a day spent catching up on emails, organising work and enjoying a costume meeting for the short I'm currently working on (half of which is being filmed in a building in the CBD 23 floors up - more than a little excited, I must say).

At the risk of sounding like facebook's nosy status bar - what have you been up to?

black out: sunday

Here you go - one final outfit for the Black Out project! I got a bit caught up with work and being sick so I wasn't able to inject this ol' blog with as much colour as I was hoping - but it was definitely fun forgetting about black for a little bit (and not as challenging as I thought it would be! Thank heavens for neutrals). These shorts were picked up from vintage shop Puf n Stuff in Surry Hills and I am obsessed. (I hope I've got that name right - my trip turned into somewhat of a vintage blur! But do stop by if you're in the area - totally awesome range of shorts.) I think orange might be my favourite colour this summer, y'know. Ginger summer ahoy!

black out: thursday

Totes my favourite dress at the moment. Picket it up el cheapo from a vintage shop in Newtown which I have forgotten the name of (which as a serial travel diarist upsets me greatly) on my recent Sydney jaunt. Fitted on top, floaty down below, spotted all over. Perfect!

black out: wednesday

I'm feeling well enough to not shudder at the thought of taking photos of myself! Hurrah! And I managed to find five minutes between downpours to squeeze in a quick photo sesh for my first (documented) Black Out get up! Double hurrah!

If you're Perth-bound I hope you found a way to make the most of this dreary weather - a comfy and colourful outfit, a warm cafe and a chinwag over lunch with an old friend made for a pretty perfect stormy wednesday for me.

restyle wrap-up

Eek! I did mean to put this up a little sooner but life has insisted upon being go go go for the past couple weeks and so I'm just getting to it now. But hey, what better night for a 30 Days of Restyle wrap-up than the one before it hits the runway! So here are my 30 (minus one when I wasn't willing to brave the pouring rain for my usual gate snap) op shopped outfits from last month, presented in video form. Possibly the most narcissistic thing I've ever made.

Can you tell my favourite kinds of clothes are things I can jump and twirl around in? And that I love a nice high waist, and a pop of colour, and hanging out with my cat?

So what do you think? Which outfits did you dig?

And if you're in Perth and free tomorrow morning at 11 be sure to make your way to STM Fashion Central to watch us strut our hopefully-stylish-and-not-at-all-awkward stuff.

restyle: the end

Dress from Good Samaritan ($6.00) / Heels from Save the Children ($12.00)
with
tutu made by friend / vintage belt / Forever New tights

It's here! The final day of Perth Fashion Festival and Lotterywest's 30 Days Of Restyle! And not going to lie, I'm pretty bummed. It's been exhausting (in the best possible way, of course) but I've had so much fun and I'm quite proud of myself for getting through it with minimal mind blanks. If I had the chance to do it for another month, I absolutely would.

On this sad, sad day I thought I'd try and turn this final post into as much of a party as I could. So hello tutu, hello bubbles, hello jumping and dancing around like a fool. What every outfit post should include, really!

I really hope y'all have enjoyed this little adventure over the past month. And are now maybe even a little inspired to get your op shop on, if you weren't already? And hopefully you're not totally tired of my face, and that ol' gate, also. I'll be back with a post featuring my favourite outfits, and then it'll be time to get ready for the runway show. The excitement's not over yet, thank heavens.

I just want to say a massive THANK YOU to Renee and the Perth Fashion Festival crew for having me along for this too-good-to-possibly-be-true month of merriment, to Lotterywest for their support, to all the other Restylers for coming up with such excellent getups every day, and to every single charity and every single volunteer at those charities for not only providing people like myself with rad clothes, but for donating their time and energy to help the community. You're all awesome.

It's the second last day of Restyle, you guys! I can feel some emotion coming on... but I'll save the tears for tomorrow's post. Right now I'll just try to hold back the jealousy-inducing details of my glorious day that consisted of coffee and cake then sitting on the couch all afternoon with a good pal watching The Newsroom while inhaling chocolate (I'm not cruel like that, you know?)

restyle: a go go

Top from Anglicare ($5.00)
with
vintage skirt / ASOS sandals

Hello weekend? Hello exhaustion! I've been nonstop go go go for the past 24 hours with work last night (the Devilles sort - have you been there yet?), a few glorious hours sleep and a super awesome shoot all day today (more on that later - it's exciting, promise.) And now I am on my way out to blow off some steam with a couple friends before getting straight back into it all tomorrow! And I wouldn't have it any other way. Well, a bit more sleep would be nice. But other than that, life is keeping me busy and treating me pretty pleasantly at the moment.

Top from Save the Children ($5.00) / Vest from Anglicare ($5.00)
with
Vintage jeans / ASOS sandals

Great week, guys. Awesome work, high fives all around. Celebrating the Perth Fashion Festival getting into gear, having plenty of work to keep me busy (of the dancing, photographic and film variety - my favourite kinds of work), catching up with friends, hanging out with a family of ducklings that are currently residing in my friend's backyard (YEAH YOU READ RIGHT, I FEEL YO JEALOUSY). And I've got a dance- and film-filled weekend to look forward to. Happy happy me. I hope life is treating all of y'all just as kindly?
